What Is This Application?

The BinaryLane/Mammoth VPS platform is the software stack that sells, provisions, manages, monitors, and bills VPS services. It combines a large .NET web application with compute-host daemons, network/firewall tooling, backup tooling, and internal operations systems.

What It Does

  • Customer panel actions: create, start, stop, reinstall, migrate, snapshot, resize, and manage networking/firewall settings for VPS instances.
  • Compute host management: HostDaemon and related scripts execute guest lifecycle commands on physical hosts.
  • Networking: QEMU/KVM networking, iptables, network namespaces, BIRD routing, NDP/ARP proxying, and router configuration.
  • Billing and account flows: payment processing, invoices, account management, and API token handling.
  • Provisioning and images: VM image building, host bootstrap, ISO generation, guest agents, and base-image testing.
  • Operations: Ansible, monitoring, release tooling, internal bots, CI/CD, and support tooling.

Technology Stack

Layer Main technologies
Main application C#/.NET, ASP.NET Core, MonoRail, Castle, NHibernate
Frontend TypeScript/TSX SPA, CSS/SCSS
Compute hosts HostDaemon, QEMU/KVM, legacy Xen tooling, shell scripts

Infrastructure tooling Python, Rust, Bash, Ansible, systemd
Testing .NET tests, Playwright e2e tests, BATS
Operations GitLab CI/CD, Icinga, Butler, Tron, Morbo

Important Code Areas

  • infrastructure/compute and vps/compute - compute host programs and deployment files.
  • facility/* - per-datacentre satellite services such as backup proxy, looking glass, and rescue proxy.
  • infrastructure/backup - backup host programs.
  • infrastructure/dynamic-routing - Rust service around BIRD/routing operations.
  • product/guest-agent - software installed inside guest VMs.
  • ops/* - internal automation, monitoring, and release tools.
